All types of Nepal's eastern handicrafts, Tibetan carpets, and exquisite Jewelry will be there for you to look at and purchase. The streets will be usually filled with tourists, and you might end up loving the evening amidst foreigners in a foreign place.
Day 02: Kathmandu City Sightseeing.
After a hearty breakfast, we begin by another briefing session on the details of the programs with all the do’s and don’ts, so as to make the trip more fulfilling and rewarding for you. Sightseeing mythical Kathmandu Valley is incredible and unforgettable, as it involves being in proximity to many UNESCO World Heritage sites such as Swoyambhunath temple, Patan Durbar Square, Swoyambhunath temple, Pashupatinath temple, and Boudhinath. All day long, you get to be enthralled by the uniqueness of these historical and religious sites, and get to see amazing preservation of ancient art and culture.
Day 03: Drive to Pokhara (850m).
After a hearty breakfast, we drive to Pokhara, 200 km west from Kathmandu. The city of Pokhara is a tourist hub laden with irresistible natural beauty. Boating at serene and placid Lake Phewa Taal alongside majestic and up close view of snowcapped mountains like Mt. Fishtail, Mt. Annapurna, Mt. Dhaulagiri is one of the most popular things to do here in Pokhara. Besides beautiful nature and lots of exciting things to do, interaction with local people of this town also adds more excitement.
Day 04: Fly from Pokhara to Jomsom and trek to Kagbeni (2775m).
We drive to airport in the early morning to catch the flight to Jomsom. It will be a short flight lasting for about 30 minutes across the Annapurna range and along the gorges of Kali Gandaki. After landing on the airstrip of Jomsom, we assemble a team, then get our luggage ready, and start on our trek across Thak khola river further onto the banks of river Kali Gandaki, which presents us with numerous deepest gorges, and then leads us towards Kagbeni. There are chances we might come across groups of pilgrims heading towards Muktinath, located right above Kagbeni, where we stay overnight in one of the lodges.
Day 05: Trek from Kagbeni to Muktinath (3700m, Duration 5 hours).
After good breakfast, we continue to trek to Muktinath, which is a very popular centre of pilgrimage and very sacred to both Buddhists and Hindus. The shrine is situated in a grove of trees and also includes Buddhist monastery and Jwala Mai temple, which contains a spring and an eternal flame fed by natural gas underground. This is both mystical and mythical. The burning flame of the temple is taken to combine the elements of fire, water and earth. Legends say that Lord Brahma, the creator of this universe, made an offering here, lighting fire on water, which can be seen in the small Buddhist Gompa below the main Hindu temple. Hindus believe that bathing in the ‘108 boar's-head-water-spouts’ of the place brings salvation after death to the pilgrims, who come here all the way from India and other neighboring countries.
Day 06: Trek from Muktinath to Kagbeni.
After breakfast, we descend down to Kagbeni, this may take less than 4 hours and the total altitude difference goes down by 1000 m providing a relief for those having some problem of high altitude. Kagbeni will have our lodge for our comfortable stay overnight.
Day 07: Trek from Kagbeni to Marpha (2650m).
After breakfast, we descend downwards, and we find the total altitude lowered by almost 1035 m. With the wide flat valley of the Kali Gandaki, the landscape changes yet again as we pass between twisted stratified rock formations to Jomsom (2739 m), which is the centre for the Mustang District. After lunch we carry on a short way to Marpha, a gorgeous little whitewashed town, where the houses and lodges are built around beautiful courtyards protecting them from the strong afternoon wind, drawn up between the two stunning peaks of Mt. Annapurna and Mt. Dhaulagiri. Marpha is well known for its fruit produce, apple being the major production. You could get fresh apple pie here along with apple favored brandy. The area is dotted with a Tibetan refugee camp across the river, and we stay overnight in the lodge.
Day 08: Trek from Marpha to Kalopani 2530m, Duration 6 hours).
After good breakfast in the lodge, we trek downwards, while the altitude falls by about 135m. We continue to walk down and pass the agricultural research farm just out of Marpha towards the large village of Tukuche (2615m), which has historically been Thakali trade centre. After a lunch at Tukuche, we start to walk down until coming across typical village of Khobang (2625 m), where the trail enters an internal corridor protecting the entrances to the houses from the wind. We descend further towards Kalopani (2555 m), which will have our lodge for our overnight stop.
Day 09: Trek down from Kalopani to Tatopani (2160m).
After a hearty breakfast, we trek further down with total altitude difference falling by 1330 m. On through Lete and Ghasa (2062 m), the trail now goes high above the river passing through a narrow gorge, regarded as the deepest and steepest in the world, dwarfing us between the summits of Mt. Dhaulagiri and Mt. Annapurna high above. Kavre, the northern-most hill-caste village on the trail, marks the change back from dryer Tibetan landscape to more lush as we move into Hindu dominant areas of Brahmin and Chettri hill farmers. We stop for lunch at the spectacular waterfall of Rupse Chhaharo (5350 ft), a truly beautiful spot. Then, we pass through the small village of Dana, and head out to our lodge at Tatopani - literally 'hot springs', where we can take a good relaxing soak before supper in our lodge.
Day 10: Trek uphill to Ghorepani (2855m, Duration 8 hours).
After breakfast, we ascend and find the total altitude difference of the day go higher by +1647m. Trekking to Gorepani will be little bit tougher compared to all those easy days coming down the Kali Gandaki river. It will be a long day uphill and temperature will be hotter. We avoid the heat by making a good early start, climbing up through the villages of Ghara (1447 m) and Sikha (2099 m). At Phalate (2277 m), we have most of the climb behind us, and we find magnificent views of the huge south face of Dhaulagiri getting more clearer and clearer. We take a brief stop here for lunch, and then continue pass Chitre (2354 m), and keep right until reaching Ghorepani, originally a horse watering place on the ridge but now has evolved into an important crossroads with many tourist lodges.
Day 11: Ascend from Ghorepani to Thirkhedunga (1540m).
Excursion to Poonhill (3210m)After breakfast, we descend down for about 4 hours, and the total altitude difference of the day falls by 1047 m. We climb to Poon Hill (3225 m), a view point, standing just south of Ghorepani, where we could catch a beautiful sunrise over the valley of Pokhara lightning the whole panorama of peaks from mighty Mt. Dhaulagiri, majestic Mt. Annapurna, to startlingly beautiful twin peaks of Mt. Machhapuchhare. The view we enjoy from Poon hill will be one of the most exciting moments and a wonderful finale to the trek. From here onwards, it will be all downhill, first descending towards Thikhe Dhunga, where we will find a lodge for our overnight stay.
Day 12: Trek from Thirkhedunga to Birethanti and drive to Pokhara (850 m).
After breakfast in the lodge, we walk down further until reaching the good road just beyond Birethanti village (1108 m), where our transport will be waiting to take us for a short drive back to our luxury hotel in Pokhara. It will be a well-deserved day to relax by this lovely lakeside town filled with excellent restaurants and bars. We could hire a bike and go around the town or take a canoe over the still and peaceful waters of lake Phewa Taal. One can go visit the old markets in the north of the city famously known as Purano Bazaar, or go to ‘World Peace Stupa’ located on the top of the hill overlooking lake Phewa Taal, or just enjoy the panoramic view of the snow peaked mountains.
Day 13: Drive or Fly from Pokhara to Kathmandu.
Upon reaching Kathmandu, we make the last day of our trek most rewarding and memorable as you could carry on with more sightseeing of all the religious sites you might have missed during your first two days here in the city. There might be a place you might want to re-visit, and other times you could just want to see more of the heritage sites of historical significance. In the late afternoon, you could go around the town for more shopping and for more discovery of unique culture and tradition of the Kathmandu valley. There will be even more fancy restaurants and bars for you to rest and truly relax for the last time around.
Dinner with Cultural Program: In the evening you are invited to a typical but fascinating Nepali cultural folk dance program with an authentic Nepali dinner served with unique Newari cuisines. The Cultural Dance presented reflects the unique culture and traditions of the people of Himalayan Kingdom.
